Sterling - Holiday Differently and Cherish Lifetime

An email notification popped up!

Glanced at the phone and a small voice in my mind read the notification subject - Bangalore Blogger's meet - Jan 12th - organised by Thrillophilia. Quickly opened the email with excitement to view an invitation to the blogger's meet. I was overjoyed and thrilled to be a part of Blogger's meet. It would be a great opportunity meet the fellow bloggers in the community to reach them in person and exchange the travel interests.

The intention of the meet was the revelation of the renewed identity of Sterling Holidays. I had noticed Sterling resorts during Goa vacation planning. The Sterling resorts at Goa looked beautiful and had definitely impressed me. Thus, I looked forward to attending this event and explore more on the rebranding of Sterling Holidays.

On 12th Jan, I reached the Fortune Select JP Cosmos late by 30 minutes i.e 6:30pm. Hurrying up! It was my first visit to this 4-star hotel located in the heart of the city. I just glanced into the hotel interiors and peeped int the reception uttering - Sterling holidays event. They pointed to the lift and said 2nd floor.

Fantastic banners set up at the entrance depicting the motto of the event - Let's make India Holiday Differently. Seemed Curious and Interesting! I could hear the event had already started so I hurried up. I registered at the reception and moved in. The host organised an icebreaker game to blend the group of 20 bloggers. Smiles exchanged with a flash of names.

The event started with a quick introduction to the speaker of the day - Mr Peshwa Acharya, CMO of Sterling Holidays. Being a professional man he has travelled across the world for 25 years. He happily says that every day is interesting working for a holiday company like Sterling where his job meets his passion. Believe me, a two-minute conversation with him and he inspired me what travel means and how to see a location with its heart through traveller's eyes. It was great to listen to his own travel experiences and insights on experiential holidays.

Trend of Holidaying Today

Increased Travel Story of India
Over the years, the number of people travelling for leisure has increased tremendously. With the places to travel, people mostly look out for short getaways for quick hangouts. This has also resulted in the emergence of holiday segments / Facebook groups where like-minded people travel with similar interests.

Individual Discoveries
In a group excursion, though the destination is the same, perspectives of an individual towards the place is different. People tend to enjoy and discover the location in their unique way.

Experience is the what is expected
Holidays are no more a list must visit places in a location and clicking random pictures. The people would be more interested in themed holidays and curated experiences. The crowd is curious about discovering the culture, food and masterpieces of the place.

These aspects have changed the way we look upon holidays. The idea is not to justify the travel when we are back but to cherish them a lifetime.

Sterling Holidays as an Experiential Holiday company

Sterling Holidays has transformed into an Experiential holiday company - Well what does that mean? It might sound like a new word to many. Well, their motto is simple -Experience and Discovery are their fundamental philosophies. They formulate unique destinations and signature discoveries in and around the resorts, which makes your holidays excellent. Sterling Holidays are redefining holidays with a transformation to become ‘The leading Holiday Brand in India ’.

New Visual Identity - Thoughtful Logo

Transforming into a holiday company to provide exceptional experiences, Sterling has redesigned their unique logo which defines - Youthful, Minimalistic, Contemporary and Dynamic.

Each strand of beads here represents the sudden bursts of adrenaline that make up the highs of life.It all comes together to form a pinwheel in the wind, symbolising people, experiences and places, our three key brand pillars.

The result is a vibrant symbol full of energy.

  • Royal purple, the dominant colour, connotes rich experiences and discoveries.

  • Warm red embodies desire and passion, so it is used as a representation of people.

  • Bright yellow represents the energy of diverse places.

Amazing concept and great design. Isn't it? Completely loved their new logo and thoughtful definitions.

Sterling Discoveries

Sterling Holidays currently holds 33 resorts in beautiful destinations across India. They constantly look out for new experiences and discoveries in and around the resorts for expanding their holiday spectrum. Exploring local cuisine, people, art, culture, destination, history, nature, adventure, Sterling is endeavouring to offer guests many distinct channels to have memorable experiences and discoveries. Here are few experiences which thrilled me.

At Ooty, an exposure to Badagas and Todas, a tribal community famous for handicrafts like shawls with their trademark red, black, and white embroidery. The unique stay here involves an art of dressmaking, exploring the tribal culture and cooking in a Toda hut.

At Darjeeling, the attraction is beyond sipping a Darjeeling tea. A mesmerising view of Kanchenjunga right through the window pane, exploring the tea trails, visiting the tea production estates, trying the art of plucking of tea leaves, sipping happy valley tea, steaming momos and what not. This is what an experience which will be cherished for the years to come.

Dindi in Andhra Pradesh is a unique offbeat discovery. The resort here is located on the estuary of river Godavari and Bay of Bengal. An enjoyable houseboat ride in backwaters, fishing experience and cooking fish fries in the houseboat. Indeed a holiday to live with. Also, a visit to a hamlet called Bandarlanka where women are engaged in handloom weaving and fabricating beautiful silk and cotton sarees. Unique food specialities here are Paper sweet and Jackfruit biryani - Waking up the foodie in you.

Anand Ramachandran, COO of Sterling Holidays - literally transported us to Puri and Chilka lake the way he narrated his moments at Sterling Puri as a customer. A visit Raghurajpur - a village between Bhubaneshwar and Puri is a heritage site, wherein every family is engaged in art and paintings. The bliss of Chilka lake, Irrawaddy dolphins and a nearby bird sanctuary are the natural treasures here. The Jagannath temple, history, architecture and traditions will surely please a history buff.

Apart from the above discoveries, Sterling Holidays has also acquired Nature trails - a nature adventure company and Reunions.in - a holiday planning company to expand their horizons and experiences in becoming the leading holiday company.

Sterling Discovery Mascot

Sterling holidays has launched "Raja Rex" - the cutest discovery mascot ever. The name Raja Rex is derived from “Rajasaurus Narmadensis”, the only Indian Dinosorous found on the banks of river Narmada. Raja Rex is already serving the guests at Ooty and will be soon launched other locations. He converses and communicates all the stories to travellers. He appears be a lovely companion indeed ;)

Who would not love unexpected surprises? ;) 100 days of Joy - At Sterling resorts, every 3rd day there are simple surprises happening indoors which will awe the holidayers. This is an interesting concept which makes the moments memorable and worth living. Go find out the surprises yourself :)

Bengaluru to Delhi via a flightIt was August 10th evening, I had rechecked the packing list for the 3rd time. I made sure everything is packed and I'm all set! The food trails of India are infinite and one among them is Sindhi cuisine. The Sindh, though not a part of modern India, but has its food roots widespread in India and beyond. Sindhi cuisine has numerous signature recipes curated long ago and the food culture is still favorite of many. This was my first introduction to Sindhi cuisine at Sindh Kitchenand I was curious & ready for a Sindhi palette.

Sindh Kitchen, Malleshwaram

Located in Malleshwaram, near to Mantri mall - A metro ride led me to this place. A lift to the 3rd floor opened up an ethnic ambiance of Sindh Kitchen. The well-arranged seatings with the windows curled up with curtains overlooking the streets of Malleshwaram. The aptly chosen ceiling lightings with subtle interiors and jaali partitions were pleasing to me. They do have a private dining area well maintained rustic look…
